The V-2 rocket, technical name Aggregat-4 (A-4), was used by the Germans during World War II. The design of this Nazi Germany terror weapon served as the basis for missiles and rockets developed by the United States and the USSR in the following decades.
After the war, Wernher von Braun and other scientists who built the V-2 were brought to America (during Operation Paperclip) to begin the USA’s rocket program. Working in relative isolation in Fort Bliss, TX, the scientists created a series of rockets that eventually led to the building of the Saturn V, the rocket engine that would propel men to the moon.
On this brownline, written in German, you can see the layout of this infamous rocket, and its likeness to its immediate successors, such as the Juno, Jupiter-C, Navaho, Thor, and the Atlas.
The history of manned spaceflight began with the V-2, and this historic brownline shows you its beginnings.
