LOS ANGELES — It couldn't be more fitting to have the grand opening of "Jurassic World - The Ride" interrupted by a loose and fearsome Velociraptor Blue.
During the ride's debut on Monday, the life-size Blue roared near the podium as the stars of "Jurassic World" — Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and director Colin Trevorrow — posed for a group photo.
Fortunately, Pratt was able to call on the skills of his raptor-handler character, Owen Grady, and calm the beast without casualties.
Blue is one of three dinosaurs created by Portland-based designer Michael Curry's production company that will be roaming near the "Jurassic World" ride, allowing visitors to get up and personal with the dinosaurs — at their own risk.
Dino-developers paid special attention to ensure the creatures — from the leathery skin to the attentive eyes — appear even more believable up close.
